Role of the Governing Body

Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
Governors meet at least once a term and the minutes of these meetings are available at the school. The governing body is accountable to the Board of Trustees.
Vision and Aims
As a team of diverse people with a range of skills, experience and knowledge, our aim is to become a highly effective Governing Body for Reedham Park School.
Our vision and aims for the future are:
1. To promote the highest standards of academic achievement and personal development of every child.
2. To support and challenge the school to provide every child with the best possible well-rounded education within an environment which is stimulating,
motivating, challenging and supporting.
3. To support and guide the Head Teacher and Senior Leadership Team with the strategic development of the school, acting as critical friend and achieving the
right balance between challenge and support.
4. To challenge, support and approve key decisions, set stretching targets for improvements and review and monitor all areas of the school.
5. To try continually to gain a better understanding of our individual responsibilities through appropriate training, procedures and sharing of good practice and
procedures in order to operate in the most efficient and effective way.
6. To apply the principles of accountability, initiative, commitment, and trust.

Hayley Marsh, BSc (Hons)
Chair of Governors
Hayley is the current Chair of Governors and a former pupil of the school. With very fond memories of her time at Reedham Park, both Hayley’s children also attended the school. She graduated in 1995 from Reading University with a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science of the Earth and Atmosphere. Hayley is a civil servant with experience of delivering services, continuous improvement, policy and legislation, facilitation and training, information rights and complaints handling.
Vice Chair of Governors / Parent Governor
Francesca was a pupil at Reedham Park in the 1980s and was taught by both past Head Teachers, Miss Routledge and Ms Shaw. She later studied law at University College London then trained as a solicitor with a leading criminal defence firm. More recently she has been employed as a Specialist Prosecutor at the Specialist Fraud Division of the Crown Prosecution Service. Francesca has fond memories of her days at Reedham Park and is pleased that her children will be able to make new ones there.
Headteacher / Staff Governor
Debbie is the Headteacher at Reedham Park and has a long association with the school and its founder Miss Routledge. She started teaching at the school over 20 years ago, is a past pupil and both her children attended the school. Debbie has experience of teaching all year groups under the headship of all the previous headteachers and is committed to upholding the traditions and ethos put in place by Miss Routledge.
Deputy Headteacher / Staff Governor
Maria is the Deputy Head at Reedham Park and has a grandson currently at the school. She holds a degree in Education along with a wealth of experience, over 20 years, in the primary sector. With previous experience managing a school’s network system she is keen to develop our school’s use of technology. Maria is delighted to serve on the governing board to support the school’s ethos and traditions and uphold all that makes the school unique.
Elizabeth Fry, BA ACA
School Bursar / Staff Governor
Elizabeth was a former pupil, attending when Miss Routledge was headmistress. Elizabeth is a Chartered Accountant, Director of White Corfield & Fry Ltd, Accountants, a member of the management board and Treasurer of Purley Sports Club and other local organisations. Elizabeth has a degree in English and Theology from Leeds University.
Robert White (‘Rob’)
Director / Governor
Rob first met the previous Headteacher Louise Shaw some 20 years ago and subsequently ended up marrying her! Consequently, he has been accustomed to being immersed in the life and soul of Reedham Park on a daily basis. One of Rob’s first tasks at the school was cutting the grass on the playing field. Rob has been in business for over 25 years and owns and manages several companies locally.
Andrena da Silva
Trustee / Co-opted Governor
Andrena is a past parent and experienced governor, she also sits on the resources and strategy committees at another primary school in the borough. She is passionate about literacy and as a self-professed bookworm from an early age, is enthusiastic about Reedham Park continuing to delight children as they discover the power of words. She is the chief operating officer at a large Middle Eastern bank and has extensive experience in many areas, from I.T. to Health & Safety.
Trustee / Co-opted Governor
Dean is married to a former pupil, whose family has taught at Reedham Park and educated their children and grandchildren here. He is a financial planner with nearly 20 years’ experience in financial services, wealth management and banking. He is passionate about learning and ensuring that children are provided with the right opportunities, at the right time, in the right environment, enabling them with the best chance of reaching their full academic potential.
Denise Harvey, BA (Hons) MA
Denise has family connections to Reedham Park and is a qualified social worker with over 19 years’ experience working with children and families services. She has spent the last 11 years in senior and operational management roles and is currently a part-time lecturer and consultant helping local people in setting up businesses in social care.
Anna Myers, BSc (Hons), ACIB and CIPD
Anna is a former pupil of Reedham Park. Her mother worked at the school and her twin daughters were also recent pupils. Anna has worked in Human Resources for over twenty years and is currently Head of HR for Nuffield Health. She is also a Pension Trustee and helps to run Caterham Sea Cadets.
Peter is a current parent and passionate about children's learning and development. He graduated from South Bank University with a BSc (Hons) in Estates Management and has held a number of senior management positions. He has extensive experience in Commercial Property Management from managing projects to health and safety policies and with over 20 years experience as a chartered surveyor he is a great asset to our governing body.
Clerk to the Governing Body
Gay has a long and loyal association with Reedham Park, both her children attended the school and she has worked as the school secretary for the last 18 years. Gay has extensive clerking experience and also serves as clerk to the governing board for two maintained schools, one of which is for children with special needs.
